Jack Akins Obituary
Jack was born in Haskell, Texas, on June 27, 1928, to Odus Akins and Sarah Jane Wilson Akins. He graduated from Haskell High School and then served in the U.S. Air Force. Upon being honorably discharged, Jack earned his undergraduate degree from the University of North Texas and his medical degree from the University of Texas at Galveston. While in private practice in Moody, Jack met Frances Loraine Wiese on a blind date. They were married on Oct. 15, 1960. Jack and Frances lived in several cities throughout Texas before settling in Waco in 1970. He worked at the Veterans Administration Regional Office in Waco until retiring in 1993. Jack and Frances moved to Durham, N.C., in 2009 to be closer to family.
Jack is survived by his wife of 51 years, Frances W. Akins; one daughter, Jane Ann Hardin, and son-in-law, John Hardin; and two granddaughters, Caroline and Sabrina Hardin, all of Durham, N.C.
