Janie Pierce Obituary

Janie Pierce

May 11, 1939 - Aug 26, 2025

Ada Jane "Janie" Pierce, R.N., age 86, of West, passed away Tuesday, August 26, 2025 in Waco. A Funeral Service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, September 3, 2025 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church near Malone. A Graveside Service will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Closner Cemetery near West. The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel.

Janie was born May 11, 1939 in Irene, Texas to Irene (Groppe) and Herman Maass. A 1957 graduate of Bynum High School, she was a 4 year cheerleader, Homecoming Queen, and very active in school organizations. After High School, she attended Providence Nursing School and received her RN Degree in May of 1960. Janie was named the Outstanding Nurse of her class, which was the last of Providence School of Nursing which started in 1906. In addition to her RN, Janie earned additional degrees and certifications in Nursing Home and Hospital Administration as well Lab Technology. On October 1, 1960, she was united in marriage to Dr. Billy Don Pierce in Hillsboro. Janie was a member of the First United Methodist Church of West. After moving to West in 1960 she began an extensive Nursing and Administrative career. Janie served as the administrator in the early years of West Rest Haven, Psychiatric and State Hospitals, Home Heath, as well as working at the West Clinic with her husband.

In addition to her love for helping people, Janie had a strong passion for animals and plants. The favorite "tom girl" daughter of a cotton farmer, she loved the outdoors. She was continually caring for injured and/or abandoned animals in need. Janie was also involved in vegetable farming and grew and marketed "home grown" produce she grew on her truck farm in Aquilla. As well as her love of Agriculture, Janie was a talented artist. Her landscape and floral art can be found displayed across the state as she traveled and marketed them from her booth at numerous Texas fairs and festivals for several years. Most of all Janie loved caring for her family, especially her two grandsons. Most all that knew her often referred to her as "the sweetest lady I have ever known".

Janie is preceded by her parents; husband; and brothers and sisters, Dwayne "Pete" Maass, Margie (Maass) Morgan, Clyde Maass, and Sue (Maass) McGirk.

Survivors include her children, Douglas W. Pierce of Brenham, David A. Pierce of West, and Paula Pierce Snokhous of Aquilla; her grandsons, Payton Snokhous and wife Remmington of Abbott, and Pierce Snokhous of Ft. Worth; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First United Methodist of West, St. Peter's Lutheran Church of Malone, Parkinson's Research Foundation, or the charity of your choice. A memorial guestbook can be found at www.aderholdfh.com.
