July 8, 1943 - October 10, 2024

Juanita "Nita" Jones (Cornelius), age 81 of Elm Mott passed away Thursday morning October 10, 2024 at Baylor Scott and White Hillcrest Hospital with family by her side.

Nita was born on July 8, 1943 in Houston, to the late James "Jim" and Nellie (Nygard) Cornelius. Raised in Midfield, TX. Class of 1964, Sam Houston State University, where she was part of the rodeo team and competed in the National Collegiate Rodeo Finals in 1962, 64, 65.

Nita was a loving wife and mother to three outstanding children. She was married to Jay Phillip Jones of Elm Mott from 1965 to 2000 and together they had three sons; the late Lt. Col (Ret) Jay Jr. "Thumper", James "Bo", and Justin Jones. Together they were the entrepreneurs of their time. From owning/operating a chicken farm, dairy farm, Leroy Steak House and 5-J Feed & Farm Supply, had her hand in Real Estate and still raised cattle until her passing. She volunteered countless hours to the McLennan County 4-H and Livestock committees across Texas. She was also a member of the Elm Mott Methodist Church where she found joy in playing the piano every Sunday morning for a number of years.

Nita was preceded in death by her parents and eldest son. Survivors include sons James "Bo" with wife Kathleen Jones of Ross and Justin with wife Kinna Jones of Elm Mott and Daughter in Law Pam Jones of San Antonio. 9 Grandchildren which she loved very dearly; Seth, Dillon and Caroline Jones, Garrett with wife Marye Brunson, Brandon with wife Abby, Blake with wife Emma, and Brock with wife Victoria, Christy with husband Justin Filer, Colleen with husband Daniel Salmeri. And 4 Great Grandchildren Melody Brunson, Adeline, Theodore Jay, and Gianna Jones and one more on the way. Siblings Jimmie Stephens, Fritz Cornelius with wife Terry, and Nell McClinton along with a number of nephews and nieces.
