Lloyd Barrett Obituary

Lloyd Carlton Barrett

May 28, 1942 - June 20, 2023

The family of Jack Barrett celebrates his life as they mourn his passing on June 20, 2023. He was buried in Oakwood Cemetery on Monday, June 24, 2023, following a graveside remembrance service, in the presence of family and dear friends.

Jack was born in Houston, TX, in 1942, to Vernon and Jessie Barrett. His family moved to Waco, TX, in 1946. Jack graduated from Waco High, served in the Army and National Guard, and married the girl he would love for the next 60 years.

He was preceded in death by his father; mother; and sister, Jene Wright. He is survived by his wife, Laura Frazier Barrett; sister, Joyce Barrett Loden; sons, Joshua and wife, Jill Mashburn Barrett, Samuel, and Seth Barrett; grandson, Joshua Barrett Jr.; granddaughters, Lauren Barrett Sykora and husband, Nathan, Brooklyn Barrett, LylaKate Barrett; and three great-grandsons.

Jack retired from SWBT/AT&T in 1995 after 26 years of employment. Following Laura's retirement, the two enjoyed several years of traveling, mainly to New Mexico as he loved the beauty of that state.

He was a quiet, loving, gentle and patient man who loved the Lord and spent many hours teaching God's word to his sons, not only by reading and discussions, but also by living his life before them. He was an artist, an avid reader, a singer, and could get lost in beautiful music. He loved animals and took in every stray. Young Jack rode his horse like they were one. Blessed with a green thumb, he kept a one-acre organic garden until his body began to fail. From that point, he was in and out of hospitals until his passing.

Jack quietly slipped away to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, in the early hours of June 20, leaving behind his family who grieves the loss of this precious man.

Jack was my brother-in-law and will always be loved and remembered as a strong, gentle and Godly man. I appreciated his love and care for my beautiful sister Laura. When I first saw Jack I thought he was a movie star. But I was wrong. He was far greater than that. Jack will be greatly missed by all who were honored to know him.
