Lola Thomas Obituary

Lola Grace Thomas passed away Feb. 9, 2007. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 12, 2007, at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Nederland with the Rev. David Cross officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday evening at Broussard's in Nederland. Lola Grace Thomas was born Lola Grace Rhyne on Feb. 1, 1927, in Clifton, Texas, to her parents, Myrtle Ellen McFaddin and John H. Rhyne. Mrs. Thomas attended Clifton schools and graduated from Clifton High School in 1944. She then attended Providence Hospital School of Nursing in Waco, and Scott and White Hospital School of Nursing in Temple. In Temple, she met and married Dennis C. Thomas Jr. They had two children: a daughter, Denise Ellen and son, Dwight Haden. Mr. Thomas was an employee of Gulf Oil Corporation. They had lived in Houston and in Temple and finally in the Beaumont-Port Arthur area for 40 plus years. Mrs. Thomas attended Lamar University in Beaumont where she was an honor graduate. She was a registered nurse who served on the board of directors of St. Mary Hospital under the administration of Sister Nora. In November of 1980, she became administrative director of Baptist Hospital in Beaumont. Mrs. Thomas retired from Baptist Hospital in February 1999. Mr. Thomas preceded Mrs. Thomas in death in May 2001. They had been married 55 years and six months. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Leta Faye Rhyne Olsen. She is survived by her two children, Denise Thomas Clements and Dwight H. Thomas Sr. and his wife, Sharon; three grandchildren, Dwight Thomas Jr., Corey Posey and Tara Thomas Hatt; and one great-grandchild, Jacob Hatt.
