Louis Gonzales, Jr. passed on September 15, 2024 at Baylor Scott and White Hospital. A visitation with military honors will be from 6-8:00 pm on Friday, September 27, 2024 at OakCrest Funeral Home.

Over the years Louis had many friends and family both in and around the Waco Community that he was able to reach through public service, work with The Waco Boys Club, coaching, and the public education system.

Louis graduated from Waco High School in 1958, played baseball at Navarro Junior College, basketball at the University of Kansas, and then baseball/basketball at Baylor University where he was an All American. Louis graduated with a BS from Baylor and a MS from Prairie View A&M.

Louis entered military service where he served 4 years in San Antonio. Louis began his coaching career at Memorial High School in San Antonio and moved back to Waco, Texas to coach at University High School. He transitioned to education administration, taking on roles as Counselor and then moved on to Assistant Principal and Principal positions at Waco ISD, Robinson ISD, Lorena ISD, and finally retiring as Principal at St. Louis Elementary. Later on he took on a part time position as an Adjunct Professor at Baylor University in the Education Department.

Louis was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Victoria Gonzales and his sister, Linda Jacinto.

Louis is survived by his wife of 61 years, Carmen Beltran Gonzales; son, Louis Gonzales, III.; sisters, Vicky Lynn Tullos and Theresa Calcote; brother, Christopher Gonzales; and grandchildren, Zoe Gonzales and Heston Humphrey.

I am sad to hear that Mr. Gonzales has passed. He was my school counselor at University High and was a great friend, mentor, and counselor. He always made you know he cared about what was going on in your life. Thank you Mr. Gonzales!

I am saddened by this news. Mr. Gonzales and I worked together at Lake Air Middle School. He was the assistant principal and I taught science. He was a great colleague and I have only wonderful memories. My condolences to the family.
