Melva Barrett Obituary

Melva "Voe" Barrett, 88, of Aquilla, passed away Sept. 26, 2010, at Town Hall Estates in Whitney. Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 29, at Marshall & Marshall Chapel in Whitney with Mr. Glenn Gray officiating. Burial will follow at Scott Chapel Cemetery in Aquilla. Melva was born March 30, 1922, in Aquilla, to Carson and Ida Mae (Trammell) Williford. On June 31, 1942, she married Ernest Barrett in Hillsboro. She was an avid quilter and won many awards at the Hill County Fair with her quilts. She was also an excellent cook, enjoyed working in the garden, and was always better than the guys at hunting and fishing. Melva was a member of the Aquilla Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Clyde Martin; three brothers, Blondell, Hollis "Doc" and Jollie Williford; and two sisters, Claudine Gregory and Onice Neagle. Survivors include her husband, Ernest of Aquilla; daughter, Majane Martin and husband, Jim Wiethorn, of Sugarland; grandchildren, Jenny Martin Terrell and husband, Kelly, of Arlington, John Martin of Austin, and Elizabeth and Rebecca Wallace of Sugarland; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. So sorry to hear of Voe's passing. She was a great lady & a wonderful role model. Dad always said she could do anything the guys did & do it better. Our thoughts are with you now & always.
