Morris Mebane Obituary

Morris Mebane

Oct. 7, 1931 - May 4, 2021

Morrison Hawkins Mebane, 89, went home May 4, 2021, after a short battle with cancer. He won that battle: he gets to celebrate the victory with Jesus – and his parents that he so wanted to meet! Funeral services will be held 10 a.m., Tuesday, May 11, at First Baptist Church, 5th and Webster, Waco, Texas. Visitation will be held 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, May 10, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home, 6101 Bosque Blvd, Waco.

Morris died the way he lived, full of energy and life, always caring about others before himself. Born in Bryan, Texas, he was a graduate of Stephen F Austin High School, Bryan, and of Texas A&M and UT - what a combo! He was an Alumni by Choice at Baylor. He was a pharmacist for 46 years, first at Walgreens, Lake Air Mall; then he owned Medical & Surgical Pharmacy, Tri-Cities Pharmacy in Woodway and Morrison's Gifts, also in Waco. He cared for thousands of prescription customers – and to the day he died, remembered them all.

President of the Texas Pharmacy Association of Waco for many years, Morris also taught Pharmacology at MCC and was a Deacon at First Baptist Church. He and Lucy were avid fans of Baylor Bear basketball – especially the Lady Bears. He was immensely proud of the fact that his namesake and great-uncle, Wade B. Morrison, was co-creator of Dr. Pepper! His extensive collection of tobacco memorabilia was exceeded only by his extensive collection of grandchildren – 21 to be exact.

The love of Morris' life was first and foremost Lucy, his wife of 56 years, with whom he was reunited Tuesday morning; then his 15 grandkids; six and a half great-grandkids; his kids, John Mebane, Susan George and Sally Dickenson; his sister-in-law, Bonnie Mebane; his hairy, four-legged sidekick Rascal; and his friends –way too many to mention, but you know who you are!

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Alzheimer's Association, 710 N 64th Waco TX 76710, in honor of Lucy.
