Patrick O. Kerl Sr.

Patrick Kerl Sr. went home to be with the Lord on Jan. 16, 2006. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, at pleasant Olive Baptist Church in Waco. A wake will be Friday from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Patrick Oran Kerl, Sr. was born March 27, 1909 in Milam County near Cameron, to the parents of Rev. Ameal and Martha Brown-Kerl. He received Christ at an early age. On Oct. 22, 1930 he married Callie Katherine Phenix in Falls County near Rosebud. He was inducted into military service in 1943 to serve in the Army during World War II in New Guinea and the Southern Philippines. His tour of duty resulted in him receiving the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign medial, one Bronze Arrowhead, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Meritorious Unit Award, Victory Medal and four overseas Service Bars. He was ordained a deacon at Pleasant Olive Baptist Church by the late J.L. Dawson. He also served under the leadership of the late J.W. Williams and his current Pastor Monty Francis. He served as the President of the Brotherhood, the Pulpit Committee and other assignments given by the Pastors. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister (Viola Kerl-Worthey) and brother (Henry Kerl). Patrick Kerl Sr. leaves to cherish his loving wife of 75 years Callie Katherine Phenix-Kerl; son, Patrick Oran(Rita) Kerl Jr. of Plano; daughter, Haila Lavern Taylor of Waco; grandchildren, Ashley Brianne Kerl of Plano, Yolanda Nichelle Dockery, Charles LaVan Clark both of Waco; great-grandchildren, Harlan Dockery of Waco, Melanie Clark of Akron, OH, Shantel Clark of El Paso; brother-in-law, Luther Craig Worthy of Rosebud; sister-in-law, Cleo Kerl of Waco; nieces and nephew, Martha Lee (JD) Garnett, James Worthey of Rosebud Vetta(Shannon) Hornsby of Dallas, Annie Pearl (Velma) Johnson, Elmira Watkins, Odessa (James) McWhorter of Waco, Jessie Hithe of Hewitt, Patrick Worthey of Lubbock and a host of other relatives and friends.
