Ronald Cunyus Obituary

Ronald David Cunyus

Oct 24, 1932 - Sep 8, 2025

On September 8, 2025, Ronald David Cunyus passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at Canyon Lake, Texas, He was 92. His long life reflected his love, humor and devotion to his family and friends.

Ron was born on October 24, 1932, to Paul and Evelyn Cunyus of Waco. Ron's identical brother, Don, was born only 8 minutes before him. Ron often joked that he pushed Don out!

Both boys delivered the afternoon Waco Tribune Herald newspaper to various neighborhoods. Sunday morning deliveries were especially taxing on their energies. The twins' boyish good looks and whimsical charm led to a front-page feature story along with their pictures when they first became paper route carriers.

They had an older sister, Shirley who lived to be 92 years of age as well. The three siblings grew up close, sharing their adventures and enjoying many sun-drenched days at their camp house on the North Bosque River. Ron loved swimming, boating, water skiing, and treasured times with family and friends. He and Don were proficient table tennis players, and Ron lettered in tennis in High School. His friends enjoyed his company and easy-going personality.

Ron and his brother Don graduated from Waco High School in May of 1951 and joined the United States Air Force in June. They both served our country proudly for four years - being Honorably discharged in 1955. His time in the military strengthened his love of country and provided him with good experiences.

While stationed in Reno, Nevada he attended a Halloween party that changed everything. There he met the beautiful Pat. A year later they would marry in August 1954. Their union lasted 71 years.

Their daughter Sharon was born a year later in August 1955 in Waco. He loved her dearly, was proud of her, and said she was very intelligent and could do "anything."

After living in a small home on Sleeper Ave for a few years they purchased their first and only home on Colonial Avenue. When Ron left Amicable Life Ins Co., he went to work in the Home Office of Texas Farm Bureau in Waco in the mailing and printing department. He did a good job and took great pride in his work. He retired at age 65. As a retiree, Ron continued to enjoy playing table tennis at least five times a week with buddies like Dr. Grady Gordon and Ira Walton. His love of the sport kept him active and physically fit through his 70s.

A number of years ago, Ron put his faith in Jesus Christ at their local church at Canyon Lake. Today he is enjoying the loving fellowship of his Lord and Savior in Heaven.

In 2020, Daughter Sharon insisted Ron and Pat come to live with her at Canyon Lake for "the two weeks to slow the spread." The arrangement was so good for the three that Ron and Pat decided to make Canyon Lake their permanent home.

Ron is survived in death by wife, Pat Cunyus, daughter, Sharon Miley, and his brother Don of Arlington, Texas.

A Graveside Service & Interment, with military honors, will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at Waco Memorial Park, 6623 S. I-35, service road, Robinson (Waco), Texas 76706.
