Ruby Pearl Laurence Morris

Funeral services for Dr. Ruby Pearl Laurence Morris, former Thornton resident and native Limestone countian, will be held Saturday, Jan. 7, 1 p.m. in Thornton at the Blair-Stubbs Chapel. Interment will be at the Thornton Cemetery. A reception will follow at the Groesbeck Church of Christ. Dr. Morris, 87, passed away Jan. 2, in Topeka, Kan., where she had lived since 2003. She retired in 1988 from the Dallas independent School district as Deputy Associate Superintendent for Student Services, after 43 years of service. Dr. Morris was a recognized leader in the field of education, especially for her work related to the advancement and empowerment of women and girls. She was married to M. B. Morris, who preceded her in death. Survivors are Marion Beth Cott, daughter; Ken Cott, son-in-law; Amanda Marion Cott, granddaughter, of Topeka, Kan.
