Mrs. Ruth Evelyn Webb Barger passed away Sunday, April 29, 2012, at the Teague Nursing Home. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, May 3, at First Baptist Church in Teague. Bro. Darrel Beggs, Bro. Scott Matthews and the Rev. Jeremy Webb will officiate. Interment will follow the services at Antioch Cemetery in Luna. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 2, with the family present 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Barger was born in Luna on Aug. 1, 1916, to Chester Valentine and Cora Lona Thornton. She was a lifelong resident of Freestone County. She married L. Ray Webb, and they shared over 38 years together, including raising four sons, until being separated by his death. On April 9, 1976, she married Homer Barger and they shared over 36 years together.
Mrs. Barger was a dedicated homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, and a woman of very strong faith. She was a member of First Baptist Church for over 55 years and was active in Sunday School and other Church programs. She loved to cook and often delivered baked goods to many people in the area. Mrs. Barger enjoyed numerous trips and vacations including traveling to Hawaii, and North Dakota.
Mrs. Barger was preceded in death by her husband, L. Ray Webb; one grandson, Christopher Webb; and one sister, Olga Hill.
She is survived by her husband, Homer Barger of Teague; four sons, Willis Webb and wife, Julie, of Belton, Kerry Webb and wife, Glenda, of Austin, Clydell Webb and wife, Carole Ann, of Huntsville, and Danny Webb and wife, Nelma, of Waco; three step-daughters, Nelda Childs and husband, Charles, of Cypress, Sue Barnhill of Bossier City, La., and Jane Moore and husband, Darrell, of Teague; 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and first cousin, Ralph Thompson of Texas City.
