Stephen Knouse Obituary

Stephen Kent Knouse

Jan. 4, 1955 - Jan. 30, 2021

Stephen Kent Knouse, 66, of McGregor, Texas, went to be with his Savior at 3:57 a.m., Saturday morning, January 30, 2021. He is now absent from his COVID-stricken body to a perfect body with the Lord. Memorial service celebrating Steve's life will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, February 13, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home in Waco with Rev. John Durham officiating. Services will also be livestreamed at www.WHBfamily.com for those wishing to attend virtually.

He was born in Altoona, Pennsylvania, son of Sheldon D. and Norma L. (Gunsalus) Knouse. On June 5, 1980, he married Wendy Lynn Fish at Calvary Baptist Church in Altoona. They celebrated their 40th anniversary this past year.

Steve graduated from Altoona Area High School and the Altoona Vocational-Technical School in 1972 where he studied computer programming and played trumpet in the band. He is a 1976 graduate of The Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelors in Accounting. His professional employment started as an accountant at Boyer Candy Company in Altoona. From there, he worked in the financial department of various local and national cable television providers such as Warner Cable, Time-Warner Cable, Atlantic Broadband and Charter. For the past 12 years, he was employed at Grande Communications, last holding the position of Director of Financial Accounting, working out of their San Marcos and Waco offices.

Steve enjoyed Penn State football, the Pittsburg Pirates and Steelers, and sports and statistics of all kinds. He was proud of his Penn State Lifetime Member status. Numbers were his thing. He counted everything – even the steps inside the Washington Monument when visiting as a teenager. Steve loved 70s music, often tuning into the Kasey Kasem countdown shows. He enjoyed traveling, bicycling, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Steve's life reflected his relationship with the Lord, having a steady and quiet demeanor, always giving, and helping others. He attended Highland Baptist Church in Waco.

Surviving is his wife, Wendy L. Knouse of McGregor; one daughter, Ashley N. Culverhouse and husband, Joe, of Bruceville-Eddy, TX; two grandchildren, Ethan and Addison Culverhouse, of Bruceville-Eddy, TX; his parents, Sheldon and Norma of Hollidaysburg, PA; his inlaws, Bernard and Shirley Fish, of McGregor, TX; two brothers, Randy (Dana) and Dwight (Lew Ann), both of Altoona, PA; two nieces, Elizabeth (Matt) and Emily (Scott), of Altoona, PA; uncle, Gerald Reading of Heritage, PA; and many loved cousins and their families; great-nieces and great-nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The Wellness Center at Highland Baptist Church, Waco. The family invites you to leave a message or memory on our "Tribute Wall" at www.WHBfamily.com
