Cynthia "Cindy" Louise Hansen Eckert Lutz, 76, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at South Haven in Wahoo, Nebraska, on Thursday, May 22nd. She was born on December 6, 1948, to Earle and Bernice Hansen in Sioux City, Iowa. She graduated from Holstein High School in 1967 and went on to pursue her education at Morningside College, where she earned her teaching degree.
Cindy was united in marriage with Ronald "Ron" Lutz on December 20, 1975. To this union, two beautiful daughters were born, Melissa Renee and Angela "Angie" Marie. For over 30 years, Cindy dedicated her life to educating young minds as a 5th and 6th-grade teacher at Ashland-Greenwood Public Schools. Her passion for teaching and her unwavering commitment to her students left a lasting impact on countless lives.
After retiring from teaching, Cindy served as the director of the Ashland Public Library for several years, continuing her love for literature and community service. She had a deep affection for reading, dogs, and the color yellow. She enjoyed attending dog shows and loved playing bridge with her bridge club and playing various card and board games with her grandchildren.
Cindy is survived by her daughters, Melissa Kasuske of Ashland, Neb., and Angie (Andy) Ubel of Calamus, Iowa; her cherished grandchildren, Riley, Abby, and Kate Kasuske of Ashland, Neb., Naomi and Nora Ubel of Calamus, Iowa; her sister, Christine (Gordon) Gorychka of Austin, Texas and brother, Ed (Linda Norgaard) Hansen of Spirit Lake, Iowa; mother-in-law, Marie Lutz of Ashland, Neb., several nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog, Lola. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ron; son-in-law, Arlin; her parents, Earle and Bernice; and father-in-law, Joe.
Cindy's warmth, kindness, and dedication to her family and community will be deeply missed. She leaves behind a legacy of love and joy that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
Funeral Service, Saturday, July 5, 2025, 11 a.m., at American Lutheran Church, 1941 Silver St., Ashland, NE. Officiant, Pastor Suzanne How.
Visitation, Saturday 10 to 11 a.m. at American Lutheran Church.
