Dennis Slosser Obituary

Dennis J. Slosser Dennis J. "Jim" Slosser, "The Donut King of Wahoo", died Monday, April 22, 2024 at his home in Weston. He was born January 9, 1954 in Wahoo to Laddie and Ruby (Miller) Slosser. Jim grew up in Wahoo and attended Wahoo Public Schools through the 12th grade. At age 14, Jim began working with Jim and Maralee Taylor at the Wahoo Bakery. He grew in that position and remained there until his retirement. He had a passion for baking his favorite type of donut - the cake donut, but his baking skills extended to many varieties of raised rolls and donuts. In addition to baking, he was a skilled cake decorator. Jim was a humble man who enjoyed the simple things in life. His children and grandchildren brought particular joy to him, especially around Christmas time when he would call them out of school on December 1 of every year to decorate for the upcoming holiday. During that season, he drove them around town almost daily to enjoy the lights that adorned many homes. Family outings, camping, attending swap meets and garage sales kept Jim busy in his spare time. He treasured the hours he spent with his coffee group downing cup after cup of strong, black coffee while spinning yarns, joking, and discussing the day's events. A quiet, strong Christian faith characterized Jim as well as his kind and compassionate manner and his always happy disposition. He was an avid reader who spent long hours at the Wahoo Public Library reading newspapers, a variety of western and other novels and, of course, talking to people. At home he enjoyed listing to music, especially Bob Dylan, and watching broadcasts of the World Wrestling Federation. Jim was proud of his hometown and gave back to it in many ways which included volunteering as a medic with the Wahoo Volunteer Fire Department. He is survived by his daughters Michelle Slosser, Shandie Robichaud, Tashe (Tim) Kennec; his darling Traci Sallenbach and her children Jason Sallenbach and Keeli Sallenbach; grandchildren Raven (Jordan) Arehart, Jerome (Hannah) Osterloh, Jacob Robichaud, Christopher Robichaud, Andrew (Amelia) Robichaud; great-grandchildren Madison Arehart, Bailey Arehart, Theodore Robichaud; brothers Bob (Linda) Slosser, Don (Judy) Slosser, Ron (Annabelle) Slosser. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law Sharon Slosser; good friends Bud and Annamae Stull, Jim and Maralee Taylor, Roger Fylstra, and Chris Maly. Visitation was held from 4-8 pm, Thursday May 2 at Pruss-Nabity Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life service was held at 2 pm Friday, May 3 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donation are encouraged to the Wahoo Public Library.
