Frederick Braun Obituary

Frederick H. "Fred" Braun

May 9, 1938 - August 17, 2025

Frederick H. "Fred" Braun was born May 9, 1938, in Carleton, Nebraska, to Walter and Arlene (Leimbach) Braun. Fred grew up in Carleton where he attended school, graduating from Carleton High School in 1955. After high school, he attended Peru State College, graduating with a bachelor's degree in 1959. While at Peru State in 1958, he pitched a no hitter against Creighton! Growing up, Fred enjoyed riding horses, cared for his beloved dog, Corky, and pony, Spike, and excelled at playing football, baseball and basketball in high school.

Fred married Karen Fisher on August 21, 1959, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Carleton, Nebraska, and to this union, three children were born: Jeffrey, Michael, and Kristen. The family first made their home in Edgar, Nebraska, moved to Omaha for a time, then spent many years in Wahoo, before moving to Elkhorn.

Fred worked as a teacher after college, but then transitioned into sales, finishing his career with Helena before his retirement. Fred and Karen were longtime members of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Wahoo, and Fred was active with Pheasants Forever.

Fred was a hardworking man, with a competitive nature, but he was a devoted family man. He enjoyed hunting, horse racing, and golfing. He even has four holes in one to his credit! Fred was an avid fan of the Huskers and the St. Louis Cardinals. His favorite color was yellow, and he liked to listen to Lawrence Welk and his band. In his spare time, Fred could be found watching TV, or tending to his garden, and he looked forward to whiskey and diet, or Miller Lite, and dinner at Texas Roadhouse. Fred cherished his family and loved attending his grandkids' activities. He also looked forward to fishing trips to Canada with his friends.

Fred passed away on Sunday, August 17, 2025, at the Hospice House in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 87 years, three months and eight days. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Arlene Braun; and brother, Tom Braun. Fred is survived by his wife, Karen of Elkhorn; children, Jeff amd Sue of Roca, Neb., Michael and Marie of Redondo Beach, Calif., and Kristen and Rob McCarville of Omaha; grandchildren, Mitch, Natalie, Bernadette, Anthony, Jonathan, Michael, Jonny and Will, and nine great-grandchildren.

Celebration of life service was held 11 a.m., Saturday, August 23, at Bethany Lutheran Church, Elkhorn. Private inurnment was held at Glenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family for later designation.
