John A. Vogt Jr.

John A. Vogt Jr., 90, of Mead, NE entered into eternal rest on Saturday, September 6, 2025 at Saunders Medical Long Term Care Center in Wahoo, NE. He was born November 28, 1934 in Creighton, NE to John Sr. and Gertrude (Dartman) Vogt. He attended school until the 8th grade before helping his father with the family farm. He was united in marriage to Marlene Horn on October 26, 1955 at St. Ludger Catholic Church in Creighton, NE. From this union four children were born, Lynn, Craig, Todd and Jill.
John led a dedicated and hardworking life, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew him. Throughout his career, he worked for several companies in various roles, showcasing his versatile skill set and strong work ethic. He began as a mechanic and later transitioned into truck driving, contributing his talents to a wide range of employers, including the University of Nebraska in Mead, Adams Lines, Aggregate Carriers, Todd Valley Farms, and the Mead Dump. John and his family owned the Mead Drive Inn ice cream shop and built and ran J & M Pitstop for many years. He continued working until he transitioned to the nursing home.
When John wasn't working, he loved spending time with his family and enjoyed antique John Deere tractors. He was a member St. James Catholic Church and a 40-year member of the Mead Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department.
John is survived by his wife of 69 years, Marlene Vogt; children, Lynn (Leland) Nygren, Craig (Mary) Vogt, Todd Vogt & Jill (Dave) Chapek; grandchildren, Dallas (Kaitlyn) Vogt, Sydney (Eric) Johnson, Kerstyn Chapek & Baylie Chapek; great-grandchildren, Riley, Delaney & Dane Johnson; brother, Jerry (Jane) Vogt.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Gertrude Vogt; brothers, Robert and Donald Vogt; sisters, Jeanette Johnson and Marilyn O'Connor.
Mass of Christian Burial, Wednesday, September 10, 2025, 10:00 am at St. James Catholic Church in Mead, NE. Visitation, Tuesday, September 9, 2025, 5-7 pm with a 7:00 pm Rosary all at the church. Interment at Morningside Cemetery, Mead, NE.
