JOHN ZASTROW

Father John Zastro LINCOLN - Father John Zastrow, 97, of Lincoln, passed away Feb. 2, 2022. Father John was born on May 2, 1924 in Dakota County to Adolph and Margaret (Simmons) Zastrow. He is a retired Catholic Priest of the Lincoln Diocese, ordained May 31, 1956 St. Cecilia Church, Hastings, by His Excellency The Most Rev. John L. Paschang. Apostolates include St. Cecilia Church June 1956; appointed to graduate studies at Creighton University Omaha, June 1960; principal of Aquinas High School in David City, May 1961; in charge of St. Mary and St. Andrew Osceola and continuing as principal at Aquinas, January 1964; superintendent of Neumann High School, June 1964; appointed pastor of St. Joseph Parish in Colon continuing as superintendent of Neumann High School, June 1965; appointed pastor Immaculate Conception Parish in Rulo and St. Mary Arago, June 1976; appointed pastor Sacred Heart Parish Shelby, June 1977; appointed pastor St. John Parish Cambridge and Mission to St. Germanus in Arapahoe, June 1981; administrator All Saints Church Holdrege and Mission to St. John Smithfield, September 1985; he re- tired to Bonacum House Lincoln, July 2000. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. Father Zastrow is survived by his sister, Catherine Cassidy of Independence, Mo.; brother and sister-in-law, Lawrence and Clarice Zastrow of Kansas City, Mo. and sister-in-law, Marilyn Zastrow of Grand Island. He is preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Elizabeth Kassing, Mary Magdalene Headley and, Mary Margaret Terry and three brothers Joseph, Bernard, and Richard. A Mass of Christian burial was held on Monday Feb. 7 at 11 a.m. at Cathedral of the Risen Christ, celebrating the Mass was His Excellency The Most Rev. James D. Conley.
