Nancy Breunig Obituary

HASTINGS – Nancy Jane Breunig, 64, of Hastings died March 17 at Hannibal Regional Hospital in Hannibal, Mo. after a 23 year battle with multiple sclerosis.
Breunig was born July 10, 1948 to James V. and Dorothy (Graff) Mara in Ceresco. She graduated from Bishop Neumann High School in Wahoo. In 1970 she received her Bachelors degree in dietetics from University of Nebraska Lincoln and received her Masters of Science in Education degree from Indiana University/Purdue University in Indianapolis, Ind.
She married Charles "Chuck" Breunig on July 17, 1970 in Wahoo. She worked at the Hastings Regional Center in Hastings as the food service director and retired in 1993 due to her health.
She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church.
She enjoyed quilting, seamstress work and baking and she rode her bike across the State of Iowa in the RAGBRAI two times and the second trip was with her then 13 year old son Matt. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially her two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband; children and spouses, Matthew and Tyler Breunig of Dayton, Ohio; and Andrea and Nikolai Fras of Lincoln; grandchildren, Audrey Breunig and Thomas Breunig; step-mother-in-law, Joyce Breunig of Wahoo; brothers and spouses, James and Deb Hornung Mara of Ceresco, Joe Mara of Lincoln, David Mara of Le Mars, Iowa and Dan and Deb Mara of Stanton; sisters-in-law, Jerel Geren of Central City and Jean Starks of Norfolk; caregiver, Joslin McCoy of Hastings; and many extended family and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial was held March 23 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Hastings with Father Michael Houlihan officiating. Private family burial will be held at a later date in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Davey.
Memorials may be given to National Multiple Sclerosis Society or to the family for caregivers who provided her care.
Livingston-Butler-Volland Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

I remember Nancy from when I lived in Hastings. She was a wonderful dietitian and so interested in the central district dietetic association. Blessings to her family. She will be missed.
