Richard "Rick" Grauerholz

Richard (Rick) Grauerholz ASHLAND - Richard "Rick" Grauerholz, 74, of Ashland, passed away Friday, Nov. 4 at his home. He was born April 25, 1948 in Lincoln to George and Carolee (Wild) Grauerholz. Rick graduated from Ashland High School in 1966 and was united in marriage to Rebecca Howard on Aug. 2, 1969 in Ashland. Rick was currently serving as the mayor of Ashland. He held the office for eight years. He was an instructor for the State of Nebraska Fire Marshal Training Division for 31 years and worked for the State of Nebraska Carrier Enforcement Department, Markel Services and the Nebraska Department of Roads. He served on the Ashland Volunteer Fire Department for 40 years and the Ashland Rescue Department for 20 years. He was a member of the State of Nebraska Emergency Response Commission and Hazmat Response Team, Nebraska Volunteer Fire Association and the Nebraska Society of Fire Service Instructor Board of Directors. He enjoyed camping, woodworking, fishing, hunting, collecting guns and spending time with his family. Rick is survived by his wife, Becky Grauerholz; daughter, Karri (Robert) Melter; son, Dietrich (Jessica) Grauerholz; grandchildren, Lora Grauerholz, Kaitlyn Vosler, Cody Grauerholz, Avery Grauerholz, Jack Melter, Emma Melter; brother, Randy Grauerholz and sister, Lynn (Dennis) Schuette. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Carolee Grauerholz and parents-in-law, Jack and Hazel Howard. A funeral service will be held Saturday, Nov. 12 at 2 p.m. at First Christian Church in Ashland. Pastor Bob Schofield will officiate. Visitation will be Friday, Nov. 11 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the church. Interment with Fireman's Final Call will be at Ashland Cemetery.
