Thomas J. Schliffke
July 5, 1944 - January 20, 2025
Thomas J. Schliffke, 80 of Mead, NE entered into eternal rest on Monday, January 20, 2025, at Wisner Care Center in Wisner, NE. He was born July 5, 1944, in Fairfield, IA to Walter and Kitty (Warner) Schliffke. He was a graduate of Benson High School and completed the Union Pacific Railroad Cars and Locomotive Machinist course. He worked for Union Pacific Railroad and Western Electric before retiring as a master machinist. He was united in marriage to Constance Wagman on September 9, 1967, at St. John Catholic Church in Omaha. Tom served his country in the U.S. Army Reserves during the Vietnam War and was a member of the 172nd Transportation Company from Omaha who were called to active duty in 1968 and deployed to Vietnam. He was proud to be a veteran and very proud of his two sons who served in the U.S. Air Force.
He was a member of the VFW and former fire chief of Mead Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department. He enjoyed relaxing with a cold beer, playing cribbage, and having family gatherings at his cabin in Santee, NE. Whether it was hunting or fishing, he loved the notion his grandchildren were enjoying the outdoors.
Tom is survived by his wife, Connie Schliffke of Mead, NE; sons, Agustus (Jutta) Schliffke and Frederick (Rose) Schliffke both of Cheyenne, WY; daughter, Jennifer (Andy) Carritt of Fremont, NE; grandchildren, Jordan (Katie) Schliffke, Cali Carritt, AJ Carritt, Kyle Schliffke and Adam Schliffke; great-grandchildren, Thomas and Colton Schliffke; sisters, Carol (Rick) Van Ackeren and Jeanne (Len) Carbonara.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Kitty Schliffke; brother, Warner Schliffke; and longtime friend, Ross Kleinbeck.
Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, January 24, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church in Mead, NE. Visitation was held Thursday, January 23, 2025, 5 to 7 p.m. with 7 p.m. Rosary all at the church. Interment with Military Honors was held Monday, January 27, 2025, at 2:30 p.m. at Omaha National Cemetery.
