Eileen Overby Obituary
Eileen Overby
December 6, 1933 - September 1, 2025
Softly and tenderly, Jesus has called me home. Eileen Overby passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family at the age of 91, on September 1, 2025. She was one of God's chosen to be born December 6, 1933, to Herman and Freida (Simdorn) Wittkopp. For the next 91 years she lived life centered in her faith; a wife to Dale Overby, a mother to her children, a grandmother, a great-grandmother and an aunt.
The funeral for Eileen Overby will be held, Tuesday, September 9, at 1 p.m. at the Galchutt Lutheran Church with Pastor Janell Hansen officiating. Interment will be held at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, rural Galchutt. There will be a visitation one-hour prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren: Tyler Rupp, Dustin Rupp, Jordan Overby, Kelsey Summerville, Brennan Teske, McKenzie Kaehler and McKell Landis. Honorary pallbearers will be her great-grandchildren.
This is her story of a life well lived filled with wonderful blessings and love. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She graduated high school from DeLamere high school.
Eileen married Dale Overby August 29, 1952, in Barney, ND. They live in Galchutt and Edgeley, ND where they raised their six children. Eileen took great pride in her role as a homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Eileen's pride and devotion was to her family and the many who shared her friendship. She will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, quick wit, and warmth. She also took pride in keeping a beautifully well-kept farmstead.
Eileen is survived by her six children: Deb Lee, Dean Overby, Janie (Dave) Rupp, Lonnie (Brent) Mathern, Kyle (Shari) Overby and Jade Overby.
Eileen beamed with joy when talking about and spending time with her eight grandchildren: Tyler (Ashley) Rupp, Dustin (Laura) Rupp, Jordan Overby, Kelsey (Dylan) Summerville, Brennan Teske, McKenzie (Jeremy) Kaehler, McKell (Trent) Landis and Brittany (Randy) Kenninger. There was also nothing more precious to Eileen than loving on her 15 great grandchildren. Also left to remember her fondly are her sister, Jeannie Schlofeldt; sisters-in-law, Diane (Richard) Ista and Ann Marie Overby; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale, of 41 years; her parents, Herman and Freida Wittkopp; and brothers, Orville, Elmer, Mike and Charles.
My work here is done. I have blessed peace with my Lord as I take my Sentimental Journey home to be reunited with Dale, family and friends I have not seen in a long time.
