Joan Darline Formo, 85, born Jan. 13, 1938, in Duluth, Minn., to James and Goldie (Jones) Belt Sr., passed away Sunday, Aug. 27, 2023, in Menahga.
She studied music and voice at CalPoly and sang on stage with Sherman Cochran.
Joan met and married the love of her life, John L Formo in 1955. Together they had had six children. As a family they traveled the old west. She was an avid rockhound and mined for jade and gold.
Joan worked in many different fields including at Ah-Gwah-Ching, Red Lodge Elementary and Western Nuclear Corporation uranium mine in Jeffrey City, Wyo.
She was always willing to help others. Giving to the food shelf. Helping where she could. Through all that life threw at her she never lost her faith.
She was preceded in death by her parents; former husband John L. Formo; son John Formo; grandson Shawn Dodge; great-grandson Maxwell Lindahl; and brothers James Belt Jr. and Donald Belt.
Joan is survived by her children, Karen Dodge of Laporte, Carol Eisenbarth of Laporte, Tim (Tania) Formo of Laporte, Nancy (Steve) Schmidt of Laurel, Mont., and Penny (Mike) Olson of Laporte; sisters Myrna Colliver of Edmond, Okla.,, Valerie (Roger) Parish of Okla.; brother Russell (Karen) Belt of Laporte; 15 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Joan will be held at 11 a.m. Sept. 1 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Laporte with Pastor David Smith officiating. Interment will be at the Lakeport Cemetery at Laporte, following the service at the church.
