Donald Smith Obituary

Donald Frank Smith, age 68, Pastor of the Waynesfield Baptist Church, was called home by his Lord and Savior, November 6th, 2021, at St. Rita's Mercy Health.
He was born on May 22, 1953, in Middlesboro, Kentucky to the late Garrett and Louise (Yeary) Smith.
He was a graduate of Williamsburg Baptist College in Williamsburg, Kentucky where he dedicated his life to the ministry. Reverend Don was called to minister at the Waynesfield Baptist Church on November 18, 1984, where he has a large church family and will be greatly missed.
Prior to going to Waynesfield he was a youth pastor at the First Baptist Church in Urbana. Don was very active in the Waynesfield area and loved being a part of the community and helping others. The church was his second family and he spent much of his time helping grow the church and being there for them. He enjoyed hosting exchange students and loved to travel the world. Later in life, he organized tours and teaching others the history of Israel and other places. Pastor Don will be remembered for serving the Lord, his smile, always willing to help others, and being a good and faithful servant. Don was a good man!
Surviving family include a brother, James F. Smith of Kentucky; a sister, Glenda R. (Matthew) Runkle of Urbana, Ohio; two nephews: Tim Smith of Kentucky, and Jeremiah Runkle of North Carolina; along with two nieces: Shelly (Shane) Evans of Kentucky, and Barbara (Shane) Jenks of Urbana, Ohio; and six great-nieces and nephews, and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by a nephew, Benjamin Veness; cousins: David Yeary, and Timothy Owens.
The family will receive friends from noon– 3 p.m., and 4–6 p.m., Thursday, November 11, 2021, at Waynesfield Baptist Church, and one hour prior to services Friday at the church.
Funeral services will begin 11 a.m., Friday, November 12, 2021, at Waynesfield Baptist Church. Rev. Carlos King, a good friend will officiate.
Burial will be in the Yeary Family Cemetery in Kentucky.

Pastor Don my husband and I will always remember you welcoming us to Waynesfield Baptist church and baptizing me leading me to the Lord. You will be sadly missed but you'll never be sick again because the Lord has taken care of all that for you. RIP Pastor Don, see you again someday.

Don was one of the greatest people I have ever had the privilege of knowing. My life was richer for it. Don was a wonderful family friend. We will miss him.

Pastor Don will be missed by us all in the W-G Community. I think that we all felt he was a pastor to all of us regardless of what church we all attended. We are all better for having known him; and, we will all miss him.
