Gwynne Freytag

Gwynne Freytag, 70, of Wapakoneta, passed away peacefully on the evening of Saturday, June 21, 2025, at Elmwood Assisted Living of New Bremen.

She was born on November 15, 1954, in Dayton, OH, the daughter of the late Hugh and Molly Bernice (Fortner) Morris. On July 12, 1979, she married Dr. Thomas R. Freytag, who preceded her in death on May 11, 2025.

Gwynne is survived by: Her two children: Brandon T. (Stacey) Freytag of Troy, OH, and Jessica R. Freytag of Wapakoneta. Three beloved grandchildren: Andrew Thomas, Amelia Kate, and Alivia Leeann Freytag. Two half-sisters: Betty Bradley Beach and Patsy B. Bradley

A devoted homemaker, Gwynne also served for many years as secretary for the Auglaize County Coroner's Office. She was a longtime member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Wapakoneta. Gwynne dedicated herself to service in the community, including over 40 years on the board of the Auglaize County MRDD and as a proud volunteer with the Special Olympics. She also served on the board of the Wapakoneta YMCA and was an active member of both the Wapakoneta Woman's Club and the Noon Optimist Club.

Family was always the heart of Gwynne's world, and her children and grandchildren were her greatest joy. Outside of her love for her family, one of her deepest passions was singing-music brought her happiness and was a gift she shared with those around her.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 27, 2025, at the Eley Funeral Home & Crematory, State Route 501, Wapakoneta, with Pastor Anthony Spearhart officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Wapakoneta. The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
