William Arthur Benzing

1935 - 2021

William Arthur Benzing, 85, of Columbus passed into the Lord's care Friday July 23.
Born November 9, 1935 in Auglaize County to parents Don William and Hazel Leona (Smith) Benzing, Bill was graduated from Blume High School in1953. He served with the US Army in Germany.
Bill retired from Century Link, where he worked 40 years as an engineer. He was a member of Independent Telephone Pioneer Association, and had been a longtime member of St. John's United Church of Christ and formerly served as leader to Cub Scout Pack 131.
Bill was a fan of late-model dirt track car racing – following the race circuit  from the Midwest to Florida.

It is in the daily application of scriptures. Bill Benzing's life characterized faithfulness as a husband, father, co-worker, and friend. His every relationship reflected a genuine heart that put the needs of others above his own.
He is survived by his wife Greta (Hole) Benzing, whom he married June 27, 1959; their children the Rev James (Deborah) Benzing of South Elgin, IL, Deborah (Don "Tony") Krauss of Bellville, and Bruce (Cynthia) Benzing of Hilliard; grandchildren Rachel Benzing, Bobby(Lindsey) Krauss, Paul (Caitlin)Krauss, Matthew(Kayla) Krauss, , Sarah Benzing, and Abigail Benzing; great grandchildren Leo Krauss and Felicity Krauss; a sister Mildred Moell of Wake Forest, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter Dana Krauss; a sister Helen Roop, a brother Harold Benzing; and nieces and nephews including a nephew Paul (Gabbie) Benzing.
The Benzing family will receive guests Wednesday, July 28, 2021 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in St. John's United Church of Christ, 68 Park Avenue East, Mansfield, where his funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. His sons Rev. Jim Benzing and Bruce Benzing will assist Pastor Bob Jencks. Burial will follow in Lexington Cemetery, where Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail will provide military honors. The Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home is serving the family.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to St. John's United Church of Christ.
