Judith Cammack Obituary

A memorial service will be held on Nov. 14, 2025 at 11 a.m. at The First Christian Church in Warrensburg, MO, to celebrate Judy's life and the abundant love she shared with those fortunate to know her. The service will also be live streamed for friends and family (https://www.facebook.com/Wburgdisciples).
Judith A. Cammack died peacefully at her home in Topeka, KS on Sept. 30, 2025, at the age of 84.
She was born on Feb. 24,1941 to Amos and Margaret (Lyons) Banta. Their home in Kansas City, MO was filled with piano music, singing, friends, much laughter, and - to Judy's great delight - a baby sister. It was this happy family, often engaged in activities with the Budd Park Christian Church, that shaped Judy's life, including a Sunday school introduction to her future husband, Larry Cammack, when the two were teenagers at North East High School. They were married on July 17, 1960, in their hometown, eventually moving to Warrensburg, MO where they raised their three children.
Judy worked diligently to balance work, home, and education - eventually earning her B.S. in Nursing from the Central Missouri State University (Fall Class of 1988). She excelled as a registered nurse, and Judy's interest in nursing and patient care continued long after her retirement.
Judy is survived by her son Jon Cammack (Tess); daughters Janelle Martin and Laura Hopkins; grandchildren Jonna Cammack; Taylor Cammack (Jennifer); Kennan Armstrong (Dalton); Ryan Castle (Maggie); Megan Lenneman (Bryan); Logan Martin; Brooke Martin; Christina Estrada (Jeremy Helms); Evan Estrada; Jaiden Estrada; Freya Hopkins; 11 great-grandchildren; sister Jane Lockhart (Gary); numerous nieces and nephews, and dear friends.
Her husband Dr. Larry Cammack passed away in 2023, and her family takes comfort in the promise of their reunion in their heavenly home. Their ashes will be scattered in the Flint Hills of Riley, Kansas.
Donations may be made in Judy's name to Topeka Rescue Mission, the ALS Association, or the University of Central Missouri Nursing Department.

I didn't get to know Judy well, but she is someone I will never forget. She was as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside. She always had a smile on her face that could cheer up a room. We shared our love of cooking with each other, and she asked me to print a couple of recipes for her to give to her daughter. The day I delivered the recipes is the last time we were together. She really enjoyed the pasta dish I had given to my mom, to share with the other ladies at their supper table. Judy couldn't say enough about the sample she ate. She was surprised to hear it was a favorite recipe of a well-known celebrity. My deepest sympathy to Judy's family and many friends.

I will try sharing the recipe here, because I believe July would have gotten a kick out of it.

My sympathy in the loss of your loved one. I came to know Judy as a friend and fellow retired RN. We shared many conversations and I came to love her beautiful spirit and attitude during the short time I knew her.
