Robert Cooper Obituary
Robert L. "Bob" Cooper II, M.D. son of R. Lee and Inez Marguerite Cooper, brother of Marguerite Joann Hanna was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and respected physician passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 12th, 2025, in Overland Park, Kansas, surrounded by family. He was 86 years old.
His grandfather, O.B. Hall, delivered him on January 3, 1939. Born and raised in Warrensburg, Missouri, Bob's roots in his hometown shaped a lifetime of service, compassion, and dedication until moving to Olathe, Kansas in 2013. He graduated from Warrensburg High School in 1956, attended the University of Central Missouri (now UCM) and graduated in 1960. During his freshman and sophomore years in college, he played baseball as a pitcher for the American Legion Baseball team.
He completed his medical internship in Tulsa, Oklahoma after graduating from medical school at the University of Missouri in 1964. After completing his medical degree and internship Bob served his country by enlisting in the U.S. Air Force in 1965, where he was stationed at Whiteman Air Force Base. He completed his residency at St. Luke's Hospital after being honorably discharged from the Air Force. He returned home to Warrensburg to begin his medical practice in 1970.
Bob married the love of his life, Carol Jane Cooper, on June 9th, 1961. Together, they raised four children and built a legacy grounded in love, integrity, and laughter. His wife Jane survives him; their children, Robert Lee Cooper III (Janeen), Elizabeth Gail Hoffman (Brent), John Hall Cooper (Silvia), and David Higgins Cooper (Kara) and 12 cherished grandchildren, Ryan, Andres, Serena, Lauren, Jamie, Diego, Justin, Sydney, Lindsay, Miguel, Lily, and AJ.
Bob was a dedicated OB/GYN for 31 years, delivering 4,608 babies throughout his career. His first delivery was Cynthia Simpson (Holdren) in November 1970, sister of the funeral home director overseeing Bob's funeral care today and who was also delivered by Dr. Cooper-a full-circle moment that speaks to the enduring bonds built throughout his career.
Beyond his medical career, Bob found great joy in the outdoors. He was an avid sportsman who enjoyed quail, pheasant, and deer hunting; a passion he pursued until his early 70's. Those who knew him remember his sharp wit, steadfast friendship, and deep care for others-qualities that touched every patient, friend, and family member. Above all, Bob was deeply grateful for his loving wife of over 64 years. Some of his fondest memories were made during trips to Mexico and Europe and the many gatherings at the family farm.
Bob Cooper lived a life defined by service, family, and faith-and his spirit will live on in the many lives he helped bring into the world and the family he loved dearly.
