Roger Shipley Obituary

Roger Dennis Shipley was born Sept. 26,1942, to Ralph and Marjory Shipley of Warrensburg.
Roger recalled happy and memorable times of his growing up years, (and after), at 601 Broad St. with older brother Ron, their parents, and many neighborhood friends.
He graduated from Warrensburg High in 1960, keeping in touch with his classmates by helping to organize their class reunions.
He married Linda Carpenter, Feb. 23, 1962, at her parent 's home. She was his sweetheart and best friend. That sentiment remained until they recently passed on, 4 months apart. They had 2 children, Bret, (1962) and Shelli (1966). Roger took some business courses at the college in Warrensburg, as that was an interest of his. He was hired for management at Carp's Dept. store, (1964-1973), in Windsor, Mo., Rochelle, Il., and Mountain Home, AR.
In 1973, he became asst. manager for Wal-Mart in Mtn. Home, then later to Batesville, AR. And Brookfield, MO. In 1979, he took a position as manager of the Wal-Mart store in Chanute, Ks. The family made many lifelong friends there. Moving on to manage a Wal-Mart in Lee's Summit, MO in 1986. They bought a home in Lee's Summit in 1989, hosting friends and family at many holidays. They loved their home and surrounding neighbors, making it their forever home. The Overland Park, KS Wal-Mart was the largest in Kansas at the time, when he became manager in 1990, working there until his retirement in 1993. Throughout his career, he was active in organizations such as: Jaycees, boy scouts, Kiwanis, Rotary, and reading to children at Head Start. He enjoyed traveling with Linda, playing golf, playing and watching basketball, and taking trips with the whole family to Branson annually.
He had a passion for the Royals, being a season ticket holder for 25 years or more. He loved watching old westerns. He had a dry, quick, sense of humor, and didn't seem to know a stranger. He was an outstanding example of compassionate caregiving for his children and grandsons. Throughout the years, caring for parents, in-laws, and aunts and uncles. Most recently, his unwavering support of his beloved Linda. His was a love and dedication beyond measure, and we were truly inspired by it. Roger loved his friends, Wal-Mart teams, and neighbors as family. He was so proud of his family. He loved them all dearly, and told them so often. God bless all whom he loved, and all who loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son Bret, and wife Linda.
He is survived by brother Ron Shipley, Lafayette, IN; daughter Shelli (Shipley) Mirocke and husband Mike, Shawnee, KS; Grandson Jacob Mirocke and wife Tia, greatgrandchildren Logan Estes, Marina Estes, and Lucille Mirocke, Mission, KS; grandson Daniel Mirocke, Bowling Green, OH.
