Quite some time has passed since my grandfather left us. Truly a difficult goodbye for my family and so many. My dad couldn't be separated from his father and was quick to join him the same year. A real shock considering grandpa had 99 vibrant years and my father was only 69. I find so much comfort I reading these posts and watching old interviews with grandpa online. Truly grateful for each of you and your loving sentiments. May our love of animals and each other continue to heal the world. May you all be blessed

Bill was a part of the Howard family lore, only in part because he and my Uncle Bob were friends during the day on Joan Ave. and because Bob introduced Bill to Margie. Later Bob bet Bill that he could get Margie's phone number, which naturally he could because his little sister was friends with both Margie and her sister, Helen. Several years later, Bill and Margie got married and every year on their anniversary, wherever he was until he passed, Bob sent them flowers with a card displaying that phone number.
I met Bill (probably for the first, as well as, last time) at my Uncle Bill's wake in 2008. Seriously, this man was 86? He left us delighted and entertained. He also left us a copy of his book. He conveniently had a box of them in his car. Not that I didn't know the story practically by heart. But it was fun to read, finally. And more fun to have him recount a few details live which I had not heard before. He was an enthusiastic story teller. It was a charming encounter and a great balm to my mother, aunt and uncle.

I "met" Bill on the Internet over 20 years ago. How I wish I could have met him in person. He donated to our animal rescue in Wyoming. He was truly a hero to two-legged and four-legged lives. RIP, Bill

When Bill learned from Nancy Allen that I needed to find a good home for our Yorkie,, Nigel., he gladly volunteered to help even though we’d never met. What an honor it was to meet this kind, helpful gentleman. Nigel must’ve sensed Bill loved animals because he
immediately jumped on Bill’s lap and stayed there the remainder of his visit. We were enthralled with Bill’s incredible memory and the amazing stories he shared about his time in the war with his Yorkie named Smokey. Bill left and returned a few days later announcing he’d found a home for Nigel. And that he did. Nigel has a wonderful new master who has even trained him to be a therapy dog. We are so grateful for Bill, a man who gladly went out of his way to help someone else.

Bill, I treasure the past 18 years during which you afforded me the privilege of being your friend. You and your Yorkie Doodle Dandy, Smoky, have enhanced my life immeasurably. For that I again express my heartfelt appreciation. Now at this hour of parting, with profound admiration and respect for you, a true American and gentleman, I render a final salute.

Rest William, until you hear at dawn,
the low, clear reveille of God.
Thank you for your service to this nation. U.S. Army Air Force, WWII.
Now eternally reunited with family, friends and loved ones that have gone before. And Smoky.

My sincere condolences to the Wynne family. I was one of the nurses who took care of him when he was in the hospital! He was so proud of the book he wrote he gave it to everyone who cared for him. I said” I will except this book only if you sign it for me” with his shaky frail hand he signed “Yorkie Doodle Dandy” I will cherish this treasure for always. Jolene
