Alan Keller Obituary

Alan James Keller passed peacefully on September 12, 2025 at Creekview Assisted Living in Pleasanton, California. Alan was born in Baltimore, Maryland as the only-child of Albert and Polly Keller. With his father in the US Marine Corps, Alan attended different schools every year until he moved to Palo Alto, California in 10th grade (Palo Alto HS, '53). He went on to Stanford University and earned a masters degree in electrical engineering (BSEE '57, MSEE '58), and was a member of the NROTC program, graduating with an officer's commission in the Navy. In the Navy Alan served under Adm Rickover, and received training as a nuclear engineer for work on USN submarine reactor plants. Upon discharging from the Navy in 1962, Alan continued his career with Naval Reactors in Washington, DC — spanning a total of 39 years of both Navy and DOE/civil service.

He met his wife of 61 years, Lori (Reeves) Keller, at Stanford. They were married in 1958. Lori predeceased Alan in 2019. Over the years, Alan and Lori lived in Arlington Virginia, Kaneohe Hawaii, Falls Church Virginia, Leesburg Virginia and finally Pleasanton California. Alan's surviving family includes his two sons, Rick (Beth) of Palo Alto, Carl (Krista) of Danville; and his six grandchildren - Drew, Matthew, Katie, Morgan, Lindsay and Grant. His family brought him much joy and he cherished them above all else.

Alan and Lori remained active to the end of their lives. They loved travel, good wine and collecting art. Alan was on the tennis court until his mid-80's, and he enjoyed his time in the shop, particularly woodworking which he completed with a craftsman's touch.

A family memorial gathering will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer Society (cancer.org) are appreciated.
