Alan Richards Obituary

Alan Richards passed away peacefully on August 17, 2025, in Rockville, Maryland. He was born on March 30, 1940, in Washington, DC, to Alan and Kathleen Richards. After spending his early years in Salt Lake City, Utah, his family moved back East to Silver Spring, Maryland in 1949. Alan is a graduate of Montgomery Blair High School, the University of Maryland, and the George Washington University School of Law. He had a distinguished career as a government relations professional and lawyer for the Blue Cross/Blue Shield Association, the Health Association of America, and ultimately serving as Executive Director of the Medicare Administration Committee. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Joanne Murray; two children: Geoffrey A. Richards (Jaymie) and Wendy K. Greenfield (Evan) and eight grandchildren: Carter, Paige, and Griffin Richards and Justin, Kyle, Abigail, Hannah and Sarah Greenfield.
A memorial service will be held in late Fall. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations may be made in Alan's name to Alzheimer's Association (alz.org), or Montgomery County Hospice (montgomeryhospice.org).

We had a very strong relationship when he worked at Blue Cross and I at Blue Shield. The relationship continued when we both retired. Distance from each other gradually caused the relationship to fade. I have warm memories of Jo Anne. A reminder that nothing is permanent.
