ALBERT CANNON BAKER, SR. (Age 96)  "Al"  
Passed away on September 27, 2015, on Dataw Island, SC. He was born August 29, 1919, in Camden, NJ, a son of Oscar Winfield Baker and Catherine Cannon Baker. Al is survived by his wife, Janet Redden Baker; five children: Alice J. Rouse (George) of Springfield, VA, Albert C. Baker, Jr. (Carol), of Saratoga, CA, Donna B. Feeney (Frank) of Fairfax, VA, Sharon B. Webb (Ralph) of Fairfax Station, VA, and Susan B. Whited (Brian) of Fredericksburg, VA; and by his step-son Paul B. Hess of Waitsfield, VT. He also leaves nine grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. His first wife and mother of his children, Virginia Tarbox Baker, preceded him in death in 1980; his step-daughter, Laura K. Horvath, formerly of Leesburg, VA, died two days after Al. Al enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1940. Upon graduation from Officer Candidate School in 1942, he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Air Corps and served in various assignments including the Pentagon and Allied Forces Central Europe Headquarters in Fontainebleau, France. He retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1965, as a Lieutenant Colonel. Al enjoyed a second career in health care policy, retiring from the Federation of American Hospitals in Washington, DC in 1989. Al graduated from the George Washington University with a bachelor''s in Business Administration and a master''s in Public Administration. Al and Janet moved to Dataw Island, SC, in 1992, where they were members of the First Presbyterian Church of Beaufort, SC, the Dataw Island Club, and the American Contract Bridge League. Al and Janet enjoyed golf and duplicate bridge together and loved to travel. There will be a memorial service at the Old Post Chapel on Fort Myer on June 22, 2016, at 11 a.m. followed by his interment at the Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA. In lieu of flowers, any charitable contribution in Al''s memory would be appreciated.
