ALBERT BENSON Obituary

Dr. Albert C. Benson, Jr.
March 24, 1929 - November 30, 2021  Dr. Albert C. Benson, Jr. "Bud" died peacefully at the age of 92 after a brief period of declining health from a stroke. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joann C. Benson, in 1997. He is survived by his daughter, Terri Benson Hooten (Anthony Hooten) and her son, Jackson; his son, Dr. Randall C. Benson (Lydia) and his daughters Lida and Sophia. Bud was born in Queens, New York to Albert C. Benson, Sr. and Emma Quis Benson. He spent his formative years on a diary and livestock farm in Stafford County, and in Leesburg, Virginia, where he discovered his love of animals, raising Irish Setters. Bud received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at University of Georgia, College of Veterinary Medicine, graduating in 1953, and returned to the mid-Atlantic region where he founded the Benson Animal Hospital in Bethesda Maryland, which continues to operate today. He was also a founding member of the Metropolitan Emergency Animal Clinic (MEAC) in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Bud will always be remembered as a man of kindness, gentleness and quiet leadership. His love of animals was complete, everlasting and pure. His tireless availability, devotion, and compassion made him a legend. Bud treated every client with patience and attention and he always went the extra mile, no matter what the circumstance. He loved sailing and fly fishing, graced a tennis court, had a deliciously bawdy sense of humor and will be missed dearly every single day. A celebration commemorating his life will be held at a time and place to be determined. His fervent wish was for everyone to be kind to one another, and to be fair and respectful. Dear Randy and family, I used Benson´s Animal Hospital, and specifically Your Dear Father for years growing up Bethesda. I remember when you became a veterinarian and worked there. May GOD BLESS your Dear Father! As Chief Seattle said, " There is no death, only a change of worlds."O
