Alex and my father Joe Mangiardi were neighbours and very good friends . We shared many great times together and I truly miss Alex and his great intelligence and sense of humour. He made my father very happy . I did not know he passed. God bless

It is hard to put into words a lifetime of good memories. Uncle Alex was always full of life, funny, and warm, and I will miss not seeing him at family reunions. My husband, Dan, looked forward to meeting him, but never got the chance. We will keep all his loved ones in our prayers so that they keep in mind, during the difficult period of mourning, that we will see his smiling face again.

I've been putting this entry off too long because I just don't know what to say. Uncle Alex was a mainstay during my youth. His wit, grace and humor will live in my memory forever. I guess "Thanks and I love you." is what I want to say but it doesn't go anywhere near what I feel for the man.
Miss you, Uncle!

I became the third member of my family to become a patient of Alex's. I was an extrememly difficult case yet Alex was able to give me many years of life at his special hands. The last visit we had he told me he was retiring and I cried and asked him what I would do without him. He cried with me. For years later our correspondance was special and meant the world to me just as he did. I have saved all his cards and letters. He was one of this world's most special and wonderful human beings and will be missed by me until the day I die. Our Lord, I know, had the most special place for him by His side.
My thoughts are with his family. I can't imagine how he is missed by them knowing how I, only a long time patient, miss him.
God speed Alex. You are truly loved. I pray to see you in heaven one day.

My sympathies to Dr. Castro's loved ones. I had the honor of being his very last patient in June 1985, and credit him with saving my life.
And, I so admired his adventurous retirement years, reported in our annual exchange of Christmas letters. Alex Castro--a life well-lived.
