Of Virginia Beach, VA, formerly of Herndon, VA, died peacefully on Thursday, April 8, 2004, at Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters. Diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis at birth, Alex lived every day with vivacity and intensity and joy. She endured her illness quietly, never expecting nor asking for sympathy. With her big smile and positive outlook she was an inspiration, never letting CF define her or limit her. Alex filled her short span of life with meaning. She, along with her brother, had been an especially active fundraiser for the American Cancer Society and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. She was a caring, generous, loving daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, and cousin. Those fortunate enough to have been her friend have experienced the true value of friendship. The memories of her sense of fun and infectious laugh will fill the void at home, in the halls of Cape Henry Collegiate School and among her teammates on the Field Hockey and Lacrosse teams, that staff of the yearbook, and the Spanish Honor Society.
Born in Washington D.C., Alex is survived by her parents, Amy T. and Robert M. Boyd; her brother, Bryan Christopher; her sister, Jennifer Courtney; her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert H. Torgler of Bethesda, MD and Mr. and Mrs. Robert W. Boyd of New Bern, NC; her aunts and uncles, Nancy Boyd of New York, NY, Mr. and Mrs. Michael Melone of Oviedo, FL, Mr. and Mrs. Steven D. Boyd of Lakewood, CA; and her cousins, Kristen Hill, Matt Melone, and Samantha Boyd. Services will be held on Tuesday, April 13, 2004, at 11 a.m. in St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Virginia Beach. Interment will follow the ceremony in Eastern Shore Chapel Cemetery. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Lynnhaven Chapel is handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that contributions be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, The American Cancer Society or the Children's Hospital of the King's.
