Alfonso DeRosa Obituary

Alfonso "Al" Michael DeRosa, 82, of Normandy Isle, Miami Beach, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2025, in the presence of loved ones. Born March 31, 1943, in Neptune, New Jersey, he was the beloved son of Julia and Salvatore, and older brother to Patricia. Like many other Italian families of that era, he was part of a large and loving extended family that included many dear friends who were considered family.
Al graduated from St. Rose High School before earning his B.S.B.A. from Georgetown University ('64) and a M.B.A. from American University ('66). Al's bond with Georgetown University was profound, marking his post-collegiate life with a unique attachment. A devoted Hoya, Al was a founding member of the Hoya Hoop Club as well as a faithful supporter and season ticket holder of men's basketball. He served on Georgetown's Board of Governors and took great pride in contributing to university milestones, including the Alumni House and new gym dedications.
Al's career as a successful financial advisor spanned more than 50 years, culminating with his retirement from Morgan Stanley in 2020. Throughout his career, clients became trusted, lifelong friends. His commitment to Georgetown University carried over into his career when he served as a mentor to many students, and as an adjunct professor at the university, where he received the David W. Danjczek Award for Adjunct Faculty Teaching. Education was of utmost importance to Al, where he relished the opportunity to mentor or teach others using his wealth of experience and wisdom.
In his later years, many of Al's happiest days were spent with his cherished grandchildren at his Bethany Beach and Normandy Isle homes.
Al is survived by his loving wife of nearly 31 years, Sharon; children Christina (Dan) Jamieson, Michael DeRosa, Lisa (Bill) Mathias, Matthew DeRosa, Daniel (Marianna) Rosa, Douglas (Farah) Rosa, and David (Valentina) Rosa; grandchildren Stephen, Cole, Avery, Sean, Brayden, Michael, Lisi, Titian, Ethan, Andrea, and Sole; and his sister Patricia Apicelli.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, 12:10 p.m. at Georgetown University, Dahlgren Chapel, Old N Way, Washington, DC 20057, with a reception to follow at the John R. Thompson Jr. Intercollegiate Athletic Center, 1360 West Rd, Washington, DC 20057. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to So Others Might Eat (S.O.M.E.), a Washington, D.C. organization committed to serving individuals and families experiencing poverty and homelessness. https://some.org/
