ALFRED BAER Obituary

ALFRED BAER, M.D.
Died at home on June 20, 2012 from end-stage renal disease. Born in Strasbourg, France in 1917, he came to the U.S. in 1939 and received his medical degree from Johns Hopkins in 1945. After further training in New York City, he practiced Internal Medicine and Rheumatology in Washington, D.C. until 1993. Fluent in French, German, and Spanish, he enjoyed the challenge and privilege of treating patients from all over the world. As a clinical faculty member at George Washington University Medical School for over 45 years, he imparted his love and knowledge of medicine to several generations of physicians, retiring as Clinical Professor Emeritus. He was a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and member of the Union of Concerned Scientists and Physicians for Social Responsibility. He will be missed profoundly by his devoted and beloved family: his wife of 62 years, Eva; children Barbary (Raoul) and Alan (Maria); and grandchildren Tamara, Daniel, Sara, and Nicholas. According to his wishes, no services were held.
