I stopped this morning, Father´s Day, to give thanks to the men who served as surrogate fathers to me. Having lost my father as a 4-year old, I looked outside to determine and understand the role of `father´. There was no finer example in my life than Dr Allan Chotiner. It is only now that I realize my career - high school coach, math teacher, assistant principal, and finally principal - has been an effort to replicate the lives of the men that shaped me. Not only did Dr. Chotiner influence me, he influenced the students I had the blessing to influence. As long as I live he will be admired, appreciated, and missed. I regret not having told him personally. John Seaman, HPHS Class of `66.

I happen to look his name up just to see what it said and found out about his death. It is a great loss. I went to High Point in the 70's and admired his leadership and the excellent education I was receiving. I saw Nancy and what a proud and elegant woman she was becoming. Please know that he was admired and that we all feel a great loss and deep appreciation for him. Rodney M White 74

As a Jr. High and High School student at High Point from 1954 until I graduated in 1960, I observed first-hand how Dr. Chotiner and his wonderful staff built this new school into a first-rate educational institution. I am grateful for the opportunities for growth that Dr. Chotiner and High Point provided me. They assured that I had a strong foundation for my later academic endeavors and my career first in higher education and later in the nonprofit sector.

As a faculty member at three different state universities, I was made aware--sometimes painfully--of how strong an educational background I had received at High Point compared to that of some of my students. Thank you Dr. Chotiner for providing the supportive environment that you did.

I first met Dr. Chotiner at Greenbelt Junior High; I had just started the 7th grade. I encountered a few speedbumps on the highway of education that he smoothed out; called detention.Leaving Greenbelt Jr. high, I entered Highpoint in the 10th grade. New school, new principal. I was supprised to hear my name called to report to the office the first day. OMG; there he was; Dr. Chotiner. long story made short; I graduated in 1957. Many times in my life I thought of the many, many conversations I had with Dr. Chotiner. And, the influance he had on me, to this day. Saying good by is so permanent, so, Dr. Chotiner I look for your page in the next life, my friend. My condolences to your family.

I graduated in 1967, along with Kathy, and remember her father very well. He helped me with a difficult stituation which truly changed my life. I'm glad he lived such a long full life and I send the family my sympathy on his loss. He was such a gentle man--every time I see people at basketball games trying to distract the foul line throwers, I recall how he required "Eagles" to be better sports than that. His kind of example will be sorely missed.

When I was in school, the idea was to stay out of the Principal's office so I knew Dr. Chotiner by reputation mostly. That reputation was, and is - Sterling. As a member of his last class at High Point, it is a genuine privilige to be counted among those educated under his leadership. "To live respected, and die regretted" applies perfectly to that gentleman.
Nancy, thanks for bringing your Mom and Dad to our 35 year reunion. It was wonderful seeing them again, and their kind words will always be cherished.
My sincere condolences to you and your family, and please draw comfort in knowing that the pain will subside, the memories endure, and the blessings will grow. God Bless
