I met Alvin by chance on the Marc train one afternoon and we quickly became good friends via his absolute genius for music. Only saw him one other time but we kept in touch fairly constantly through email and phone. I feel very lucky to have had him as a friend, even for the short time I did. Devastated to hear he's gone.

Dear Julie and Natalie,
Yes, Julie- because that's what you went by when we were thick as thieves. Those were the days, and your dad was such a huge part of that. I will never forget Alvin and Daisy- whether it be playing at your grandmother's house or exploring the "bamboo forest" in your backyard. Alvin was a part of all of those childhood memories, and I'll always remember him as fun-loving and kindhearted. A great person- truly one-of-a-kind, who will live on in our memories. I'm so sorry to hear this, and I wish you and your family strength.

Dear Juliana & Natalie,
Your Father was truly an amazing man. Full of Grace. He bragged about you girls more than you will ever know. His gift of laughter was shared with many and his legacy will live on in our hearts. Alvin was ALL about the GOOD in others. I can share many childhood stories with you. I will miss him so very much. Karen Kovach Buhle

Alvin was a friend of my late brother, Roger Jones. He was always kind and never treated me like the "pesky little sister" of his friend. He was a good man with a good heart. The world is poorer without him.

Everytime I put on a record I will remember him and all the good times we spent together. I am sorry that I can't make it to the service this evening, but will be thinking of you.

Wonda and Family,
Alvin is someone you would never forget. Every party we ever had in our younger days, Alvin was spinning those records. So many great times and memories. I will always have fond memories of you two together and the birth of your youngest daughter, Natalie. God Bless you, your children and Alvin.

Wanda,
I am sorry to hear about Alvin passing. I had such a crush on him so many years ago. He always gave me the sweetest smile, and never treated me like the "little cumberland." My love and sympathy to you and your family.

I am so sorry for your loss. Alvin was my cousin and although I didn't know him very well my heart is still heavy for him and his children. May the Lord give you peace, strength and courage in the days ahead.

My heart is heavy for all who love Alvin.Friendships from the old neighborhood created strong enough bonds that, even though we have been distanced recently, the loss of any of us deeply affects us.
Even though he became friends with all of my brothers first, he always offered to include me in the fun and helped bridge the gap between me and the"cool" kids. He took me to my first big concert in that crazy green van and got me hooked on live shows. I have aways felt great affection for him and never ever, ever saw or heard anything mean come from him. He just wanted everyone to have a good time and enjoy his passions. He had a great heart and a great laugh. I wish him all of the peace he struggled to find. --Sincerely, Theresa (Thorpe) Kulstad

Natalie and Juliana,
I am so sorry I cannot make it celebrate your dad's life. He was a very close and dear friend of mine for many, many years. It's difficult to sum up a man's whole life in just a few words and it is just as difficult to judge a man's life by just a few actions. But if I were to attempt to do so, I might start by saying I know he struggled a lot with the obstacles life presents. But I would also say he was a kind and gentle man who loved to have fun, and loved to be around people. His struggles are now over and he can complete his journey.
Wanda,
You have grown to be such a strong woman, with such beautiful children and grandchildren. I am so proud to know you and to have been able to share in the good times that Alvin enjoyed.
Love to you all,
Dean

Although I onlly met Alvin three times in the past three years, I spent enough time with him recently that I could tell he had a big heart and loved people and music. I know several of his close friends who are saddened and truly grieving for the loss of their beloved childhood friend. God bless the family and friends that
Alvin leaves behind. Sincerely speaking on behalf of Kerry Thorpe and myself, Paula Young
