Ann Alexander Obituary

ALEXANDER Ann Harrison Alexander Ann Harrison Alexander, 88, passed away peacefully at home on April 16, 2016. She was a longtime resident of the Riderwood Village retirement community in Silver Spring, MD, where she lived independently until the time of her death. Ann was a native Marylander, and longtime resident of Haymarket, VA. She and her loving husband, Henry Kleeb "H.K." (deceased, 1989) of 39 years, raised their son Tom (deceased, 2004) and daughter Eve (deceased, 1978). Ann will be sadly missed by her surviving brother, Tom Harrison (Anne), daughter-in-law Joanne Alexander, grandchildren, William (Jennifer), Tracy (Annie), Elizabeth (Joseph), Susan (Wesley), James, and great-grandchildren, Luke, Eve, Teagen, Tanner, Jacob, Jenna, and Dean. Ann attended the University of Maryland where she met H.K. who was attending the nearby Naval Academy. They married in 1951. Ann was a supportive wife and homemaker, while H.K. served aboard a destroyer, and then commanded a submarine. Following his service in the United States Navy, H.K. took a job with IBM, and they ultimately settled down in Haymarket, VA, where Ann became a prominent local real estate agent. In 1991, Ann met and befriended longtime companion and close friend, Robert Dawn, of Dunn Loring, VA, who shared her love of golf, bridge, and traveling. Their laughter and love of life saw them through many adventures, before Bob''s untimely death in 2004. In 2005, Ann moved to Riderwood Village, where she made many friends, and enriched the lives of all she met as she became a part of the fabric of that retirement community. Her adventurous spirit and love of dancing was showcased in 2009, when she was declared the winner of the "Dancing With the Riderwood Stars" dance competition. Ann was a phenomenally gifted woman, fiercely independent, and full of spirit. She never complained and was always the first to highlight the good in her life. She possessed a diverse set of skills and had a wide range of interests. She was a seamstress, artist, fashion designer, dancer, card player, real estate agent, avid golfer, devout Episcopalian, and master of any social event. She will be missed by all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the Ronald McDonald House Charities.
