ANN HAGEMANN Obituary

ANN HAGEMANN
Ann, who lived in Alexandria, VA, died peacefully November 17, 2017 with her daughter Melissa Hagemann and dear friends at her side. She had been diagnosed with an advanced stomach cancer more than three years ago. Through optimism, treatment, and the determination to enjoy time with those whom she loved and who loved her, particularly her granddaughter Clara Hagemann, she led a full and symptom-free life until very recently. Ann was born in Cleveland August 5, 1945 to Nancy and Bill Hagemann, and moved to Arlington when she was ten. She graduated from Yorktown High School and attended Miami University in Ohio. She retired in Alexandria after a long and successful career in government relations. For a second career, she taught English as a Second Language in Fairfax County schools. Ann is survived by her daughter Melissa and granddaughter Clara, of Alexandria; by her niece Heather Heck; and by cousins and friends who will miss her deeply. A memorial service will be held on December 9 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Athenaeum in Alexandria.

Melissa and Clara,
You are often in my thoughts. I would love to meet Clara sometime and catch up with you, too, Melissa. Your Mom was such an inspiration to the rest of us in her acceptance of the Cancer, but also the determination not to let it stop her from living and enjoying her friends and family. I would have guessed that she would be someone who lived a long life, but Clara and she shared a beautiful relationship, just as your Mom and I did with our grandmother, Florence Rebecca Lovelace Thompson. I am sure that her memories of Mama followed her as she spent time with Clara.
Your Mom and Grandma, Nancy Louise Thompson Hagemann will always remain in my heart, and I miss them every day.

May your mother's love, compassion, kindness and strength always be a beacon of light for you. She will always be with be with you. I have always loved and admired your mother, she overcame every obstacle that God gave her, she never gave up, and continued to grow through those obstacles. My love, DeDe
