ANN BATES HIBAN

Ann Bates Hiban, 88, of Boston, MA, passed away on October 10, 2023 in Columbia, MD. She was born on June 25, 1935 in Boston, MA to Emily and Earle Bates.

Ann was a beloved mother of five children and a dedicated High School Special Education Teacher at Wilde Lake High School. She was known for her strength, independence, and curiosity. Ann had a vibrant social life and enjoyed the company of her friends. She had a passion for traveling, playing mahjong, and spending time with her large family.

Ann is survived by her children, Michael Thomas Hiban, Patrick Joseph Hiban, Jennifer Ling Hiban, Barbara Jo Hiban, and Timothy Robert Hiban. She was preceded in death by her mother Emily, father Earle, and brother Jerry.

Ann graduated from Bethesda Chevy Chase High School and went on to pursue higher education at Duke University.

Ann worshipped at St. John The Evangelist Roman Catholic Church.

In her free time, Ann enjoyed playing bridge, mahjong, and canasta.

Memorial services will be held in the third week of December at St. John The Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, located at 10431 Twin Rivers Road, Columbia, Maryland 21044.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

The Witzke Funeral Home in Columbia, Maryland is assisting with the arrangements.

Mrs. Hiban was a wonderful teacher at Wilde Lake and it wasn´t for her many of us in Special Education would have dropped out and given up however she always showed love and compassion for us and made sure to work with us.
