Anne Feldman Obituary

February 25, 1931 - April 5, 2025
Nancy Feldman passed away in her sleep at home, at the age of 94. She was born and raised in Cambridge, MA to Henry W. and Harriet J. Newbegin. She attended Swarthmore College where she met her future husband, Paul, during freshman orientation week. Both were avid folk singers and enjoyed singing together and with friends. Nancy graduated with Honors in English and went on to receive a Masters degree from Simmons School of Social Work in Boston. After graduation she had the formative experience of working at the Tompkins County Mental Health Clinic in upstate New York.
The Feldmans married in 1955 and had three children. In 1962, they moved to Spencerville, MD where they bought a Civil War-era farmhouse, and Nancy was able to pursue her lifelong passion for horses and horse training. She was very active in the community, volunteering on the Giles-Johnson Defense Committee representing three local teens who had been wrongfully accused of rape.
While pursuing her own interest in horses and horsemanship, she mentored many young equestrians and assumed a leadership role in the Redland Hunt Pony Club, a local branch of the US Pony Clubs. Even after her own children graduated from the group, Nancy remained involved and created the Iron Bridge Pony Club to accommodate an expanding membership. She was beloved by many Pony Club families for her dedication and patience. Nancy also became an accomplished dressage judge, and judged many youth and adult dressage competitions in MD, VA, and PA.
In the early 1980s, Nancy combined her experiences of social work, dressage, horsemanship, and horse training to write and publish a novel, "Collective Marks". She participated in the family business, Bagel Day, until the couple retired in 2017.
She is survived by Paul, her loving husband of 70 years; children Stephen (Pam Zimmerman), Jean (Nick Creekmore), and Jennifer (Bob Riebe); grandchildren Stephen Creekmore, Allison Keller, and Paul and James Riebe; great grandchildren Cole and Zoey Keller, as well as cousins, nieces, and nephews. She will be greatly missed by family and friends. No services are planned.

Thank you, Nancy for hosting all those wonderful July 4 parties in your capacious yard for a bunch of contentious but friendly economists and their families. We all miss you.
