Anne O'Rourke Obituary



O''ROURKE ANNE O''ROURKE Anne O''Rourke passed away February 19, 2010 at her home in Bethesda after a courageous struggle with ALS. She was 63. Anne was born in St. Charles, Missouri the daughter of George Tainter and Betty O''Reilly Tainter. She grew up in San Francisco, California. Anne was dedicated to working in many forms. She was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Sierra Leone where she trained pharmaceutical dispensers; a hospital pharmacist in San Francisco for 11 years; a staff writer for a pharmaceutical reference book, Martindale, in London for five years; and most recently she was an assistant editor of AHFS Drug Information published by The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists in Bethesda, where she worked for 17 years. Her great passion in life was tennis, which she started playing in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco while in elementary school. Anne was captain of her high school and university tennis teams, and played the game until April 2009. She married her high school boyfriend, Phil, and together they traveled the world. They worked and lived in Africa for nearly six years, London for five years, and settled Maryland for the last 17 years. Anne is survived by her husband, Phil O''Rourke; daughters, Malaika O''Rourke of Seattle and Stephanie O''Rourke of New York; brothers, Dr. Joseph Tainter (wife Bonnie Bagley) of Albuquerque and Patrick Tainter (wife Lillian Fandriana) of Jakarta, Indonesia; nephews, Emmett Tainter of Albuquerque, David Tainter of Durham, and Steven Tainter of Jakarta and; numerous cousins in Nevada and Missouri. A mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m., Friday February 26, at St. Bartholomew''s Church in Bethesda. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the ALS Association, 7507 Standish Place, Rockville, MD 20855.

To Phil and Family. Sorry to hear your sad news. Anne will be fondly remembered by all her friends and colleagues at the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.
