Hello Nadine - I was so shocked to see Tony's name in the obituary. I worked with both you and Tony at DOI. I also worked with Tony at HHS. I truly enjoyed his humour, kind-heartedness and he was certainly a great boss, down-to-earth and so very smart. My prayers and condolences to you and your family.

I was astonished to find out about Tony. I will always appreciate his welcoming me back into POB when my career hit a bump. He was an inspiring leader, and a good friend.

We were in high school together, class of 1960. I remember Tony as very smart, quiet, serene, with an aura of wisdom about him and an engaging smile. As a schoolboy sportswriter, he was part of the Westerly basketball saga. His game reporting to the Sun was superb. We reconnected at our 40th class reunion. There was still this aura of wisdom about him and the smile was still there. He spoke at this reunion about giving back - i.e what we ought to do for others since in our careers we have taken a lot. With him at this time were two young children he and Nadine had adopted. The youngest Tony gathered up in Saigon and flew him home in his lap. Tony and Nadine were setting the example and going the extra mile - giving back.

Tony was my first boss at HEW, straight out of school in 1979. As a boss, Tony demonstrated the remarkable value of openness, intergity, and dedication to achieve the best that have served me ever since. Tony was also a friend from the start; like when budget work forced me to miss the first 1979 American League playoff game in Baltimore, Tony invited me to join his famly the next night, and though we were avidly rooting for opposite sides (he the Orioles and I the Angels)no blood was spilled and just a little beer. More importantly, a friendship was formed that survived many years and two coasts. Though I haven't seen Tony in a few years, I still think of him often and regularly paraphrase him regarding his work and our work, "It's the people's business and they are welcome to see it and join us in it.". A rare and wonderful sentiment.
