Arsenia G. Levintow, 75, died February 4, 2003 in Bethesda, MD. She was born in Isabela, Puerto Rico, on April 2, 1927, the daughter of Francisco Gonzalez and Francisca Valle Ruiz. In the late 1940's she moved to Philadelphia, PA, where she met and married David Levintow in 1951. In 1958, the Levintow family embarked on a 25-year foreign service career with the United States Agency for International Development that led them to the rice terraces of the Philippines, the coral reefs of Sri Lanka, the mosques of Iran and Turkey, the bustling markets of Taiwan and Liberia, the ancient forts of Afghanistan, and many of the world's wonders along the way. Ginny's infectious love of travel, music, reading, art, and languages instilled in her family a thirst for knowledge and adventure, and an abiding respect for cultural and religious differences. Her passion for classical music, theater, and dance took her to many performances in the Washington, DC area at the Kennedy Center, National Theatre, and Wolftrap. Ginny's deep faith was a source of constant strength and renewal to her family.
She was predeceased by four siblings, Esther, Ramon, David, and Jose Antonio Gonzalez. Survivors include her husband, David Levintow of Bethesda, MD; a daughter, Alexandra Howell of Lyme, NH; three sons, Nicholas Levintow of Silver Spring, MD, Christopher Levintow and Anthony Levintow of New York, NY; three brothers, Luis, Jaime, and Efrain Gonzalez; two sisters, Sara Berrios and Nilka Aviles, all of Puerto Rico; and six grandchildren. Catholic services will be held on February 13, 11 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Silver Spring, MD (in the Old St. John's Church, 9700 Rosensteel Ave., Forest Glen, MD). In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Catholic World Missions, 33 Rossotto Dr., Hamden, CT 06514, or to a charity of one's choice. Arrangements are by the Francis J. Collins Funeral Home in Silver Spring, MD.

We have wonderful memories of Ginny Levintow from Manila, where we first met, to Washington, where we served for many years. It was always a delight to be with her. Our love goes out to the family.
