I can't believe this. I had just seen Ms. Best. I don't think I ever knew her first name because she was always a teacher in my Spanish class. She encouraged us to enter the spanish poetry competition and coached us. At the competition she was a quiet strong presence that said silently "you CAN do it" My prayers go out to her family especially her children, I know they're grown but I remember them when they were small.

I knew Barbara as a neighbor and colleague for many years. We both worked in the DCPS, as foreign language teachers. It was the announcement of her death that I learned that she was the mother of my colleague at Woodson, Ms. Umoja-Lumumba. I have been blessed to know two wonderful kindred spirits!

Barbara and I spent many years with other DCPS teachers planning the citywide World Language Festival. I loved her quiet charm and dedication to the profession. I am saddened by her passing. For you, dear family, may our Holy Father give you continued strength in your time of bereavement.

As a Spanish teacher in DCPS I have known Barbara for a long time. I have had the opportunity to get to know a most exciting and charming person. She will be truly missed. I extend my deepest sympathy to the family.

I was shocked and saddened to hear of Barbara's passing. I had not been to church in a couple of weeks and didn't know that she had taken ill. Barbara was a wonderful person and I appreciated her comfort when my mom passed a few years ago. I will continue to pray for the family.

I am very saddened about the passing of Ms. Best. She and I were colleagues at Choice Academy in DC. She was extremely helpful with her encouragement and advice. I will miss her smile and charming words! My deepest condolences to the family.
