BARBARA F. KENNEDY

BARBARA FLICK KENNEDY  
Passed away on January 18, 2013, at the age of 93 years, in Springfield, Virginia, after a brief illness. She is survived by her husband of 70 years, William M. Kennedy, Sr.; her son, William Kennedy, Jr. (Jane); her daughter, Jean Wheelock (Stephen); four grandchildren, Judith Kennedy, Douglas Kennedy, Jennifer Wheelock and Emily Wheelock, and two great-grandchildren. Mrs. Kennedy was born Barbara Helen Flick in Bedford, Ohio, and grew up in northern Ohio. She graduated from Allegheny College in 1941. Mrs. Kennedy had a lifelong commitment to her faith, to her family, and to education. She taught junior high school English and social studies for 20 years in Ohio and tutored students in English as a second language after her retirement. She was a faithful member and leader of various church congregations through her life. She and Bill joined Little River United Church of Christ in Annandale, Virginia, after they moved to Greenspring retirement village in Springfield in 2002. A memorial service will be held in the Greenspring Village Chapel on Saturday, January 26, 2013, at 11 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Little River United Church of Christ Endowment Fund, 8410 Little River Turnpike, Annandale, Virginia 22003, or Greenspring Scholar Fund, 7410 Spring Village Drive, Springfield 22150, which provides scholarships for high school seniors who are employed at Greenspring.
