Beverly Hudnut Obituary

Beverly Guidara Hudnut, 66, of Chevy Chase, MD and North Creek, NY passed away peacefully on December 29, 2024 surrounded by loved ones. The cause of death was glioblastoma brain cancer. Born and raised in Cincinnati, OH, Ms. Hudnut began developing what she considered her greatest skill as the oldest of five siblings in a very chaotic household: the ability to organize chaos!

Ms. Hudnut earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Interpersonal Communication at the University of Evansville. Later in life, she earned a Juris Doctor degree from the Washington College of Law at American University in Washington, D.C. Out of intellectual curiosity, she continued to study Latin, Chinese, Japanese, Greek, and Spanish languages after her formal education ended.

She enjoyed a wide range of roles and responsibilities, including First Lady of the City of Indianapolis, lawyer, lobbyist, policy advisor, consultant, and volunteer—but her favorite roles were as wife and mother. She was a fierce advocate for her late husband Bill and their son Chris and also for the organizations and issues that she supported.

Ms. Hudnut served on a variety of boards, committees, and commissions over the years, including, most recently, the Board of Trustees for Landon School in Bethesda, MD and the Board of the Windover Corporation in North Creek, NY. In addition to a love of family and professional activities, she embraced a love of traveling around the world.

She was preceded in death in 2016 by her husband, William H. Hudnut III and an infant son, George Matheson Hudnut, in 1992. Survivors include her son Christopher Shew Hudnut, three stepchildren, her mother, and three siblings.

A memorial service will be held at St. Columba's Episcopal Church, 4201 Albemarle Street in Washington, on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at 2:30 p.m. Ms. Hudnut's ashes will be interred next to her husband Bill at both the family cemetery at Windover in North Creek, NY and at the Second Presbyterian Church in Indianapolis, IN.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Hudnut Scholarship in Public Leadership at Indiana University. Perhaps more importantly, Beverly said that the best respect that you could show her "is to be kind to one another and to work hard to make a positive difference in the lives of others in the world around you."

So sad to learn of Beverly´s death. We worked together long ago in Cincinnati and I followed her great adventure with Bill and cheered her on. She was lovely, very smart and empathetic. Too soon gone.

It is with great sadness that I have only recently learned of Beverly's passing. Among her many other accomplishments in life, she was also a great advocate for water quality protection --especially for her beloved Windover Lake. Like she did in so many other aspects of her life, she took it upon herself to become more educated about limnology and water quality issues. She will be missed by everyone at the New York State Federation of Lake Associations, Inc.

Beverly is missed by many, among them are numerous Hudnut Family members. She was taken from this world by a presently unconquerable cancer. Hopefully a cure will be found someday in the not too distant future for others that are so afflicted.

I volunteered in Mayor Hudnut´s office and at the Capital. When Bill and Bev had their son, Chris, I was invited to their condo to see their bundle of joy. Bev was a joyful new mother. Sorry Chris on the passing of both your mother and father.

Bev and I started talking in September 2023.  We were met through ABTA - American Brain Tumor Association mentorship program.  We share the same Glioblastoma journey.  I was asked to mentor Bev and share what I had learned, though it quickly became a friendship.  I adored our talks as we shared our life experiences and cancer journey.  I admired her dedication and desire to leave things in order for Chris.  This past October I visited the DC area and was thrilled we could finally meet in person.  I'm grateful Bev came into my life and miss our talks.  Our friendship had a deep impact.  My thoughts are with Chris and the family.
